Anyone ever had a Rectifier/Regulator on a 170 catch on fire, or go bad? What causes it to go bad or catch on fire? Thanks

I think that I will go with the weak battery, we had a problem when the kids got a little deep in a creek.. Had to crank on it alot to get the water out of the carb... So i bet I ran the battery down pretty good.. They rode it for a while after we got it back going, we stopped and messed around for a few then started it back and then that's when it caught on fire.. Thanks for the help!!

My kidsw 09 170 rectifier caught on fire last year while on vacation, they hadn't been riding in mud, just down the campground gravel road,It burned the wiring up also,I talked to the dealer and they had seen it before but didn't have a answer as to what went wrong, mine was out of warranty by about 3 months and Polaris and the dealer covered all of the repairs .

my 2014 polaris rzr xp 900 orange madness rectifier burned up on the fourth trip out. i had issues with the power steering and lights blinking off and on and the dealer said it was just a loose connection at the battery. Well guss what, it was NOT the battery and the very next day i was deep in the woods and the rectifier started to smoke. the rzr almost caught fire untill we we able to disconnect the battery only after me burning my forarm trying to poor water on the smoking rectifier!! this dealer is located a hour and a half a way and i have had to go to them 2 times with this issue and its starting to be costly with gas! NOT HAPPY with this polaris at all! too many issues with them and as soon as you pay them for it you become low on their priority list! I paid cash for mine and they could care less that i have a lemon for a RZR.

I don't know if this is related to the rectifier fire on mine or not but last night I was installing a new starter solenoid and I noticed the black wire coming out of the engine ,I believe it is for the charging system is all melted it looks like it has been this way for a while I ended up replacing over a foot of melted wire. fyi

If the rectifier/regulator is bad would it cause the light to say on when the switch is bad. This is what happen had to jump it off and got back to the house and was fine next day go out and it completely dead so I figured battery was bad got a new battery and was good until next day and was dead so I jumped it off and notice when I hook the jumper cables up to it the lights n the front was dim and the brake light was dim with the key n the off position. So could it be the solenoid rectifier/regulator or the key switch not sure what is going on with it please someone let me know which route to take thanks
