Grinding noise in rear-solved

Yesterday, in preparation for a big ride Sunday, we washed our rig. Then ran it down the road a little. There was a very loud grinding noise coming out of the left rear at about 5 mph. Put it up on a jack, ran it with no noise. On the ground, no noise in reverse. Thinking I may have a rock in the brakes, I pulled the brakes off and checked. Nothing. No sticks or anything wedged anywhere. Did I mention that I was a week out of warranty? So... an hours drive to the Polaris shop.
They drove it around the parking lot, and announced that it was the backing plate on the brake pad. They said when they get wet they will "chatter" sometimes for a while and not to worry. Polaris was aware of the problem, and put a rubberized coating on the backing plate which helped, but did not solve it completely. Thank you Polaris (expletive deleted). At least the dealer didn't charge me anything for that info.
So, I ride tomorrow.
